DC's Stargirl Season 1 Review: 10 Ups & 2 Downs

6. Movie-Worthy CGI

It's unreasonable to expect cinematic level special effects from television shows because, at the end of the day, they're producing much more content on a much smaller budget. That said, as we continue to move into this era dominated by cable and streaming service programming, it's becoming increasingly apparent that there are exceptions to that rule.

Stargirl may air on The CW, but it was produced by DC Universe and contained much less episodes than the average network TV series, so the special effects are of a much higher standard than the vast majority of CGI you would see on network television (including the Arrowverse offerings).

From the beautifully realistic Cosmic Staff to the impressive iron giant S.T.R.I.P.E., Stargirl is full of visuals that belong on a screen much, much bigger than the one you'll actually watch it on - and that ultimately gifts it with the larger-than-life feel it deserves.
