7. The Gang's All Here
Showrunner Stephen Moffat has repeatedly denied that the original series' Doctors would be making an appearance in the 50th Anniversary special, much to the disappointment of Whovians everywhere. According to Moffat, "What we are not doing is the traditional massive reunion. It's a different kind of anniversary and the spine of that is David (Tennant) and Matt (Smith)" Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy even conducted a staged "protest" outside the BBC TV Centre carrying signs with things like "Have a heart, Classic Doctors want a part!" Despite this, tantalizing rumors of Peter Davison being issued a script and that in the special, a series of time distorted paintings showing the Doctors as they would have been if they hadn't regenerated continue to make the rounds. Let's face it, the novelty of having all the living Doctors play a role is what every fan wants, but it would certainly be a nightmare to write in a way that allowed each to shine. The absence of the first three Doctors would also present a challenge. Do you leave them out? Do you use old footage? Do you recast them as Hartnell was for The 5 Doctors? Big Finish's Light at The End managed to pull 8 Doctors together; surely there must be a way for Steven Moffat to bring all 11 Doctors to the screen.
