Doctor Who Series 8: 10 Reasons The Valeyard Is The Perfect Villain

5. It Would Tell Us More About The Doctor

It's true that Doctor Who has been around for 50 years, and the Doctor is less of a mystery now than he was when the show first premiered. Gaps still persist in our knowledge, however, because of what the Doctor refuses to reveal. The Valeyard, however, would be able to answer many of the questions that still follow the Doctor around the universe. Why would he do this? Because he lacks the Doctor's inhibitions, the Valeyard would be more open to answering questions. Of course, the down side of this is that the Valeyard wants the Doctor to look bad and could be quite cruel and ruthless about what he says. Or he could simply lie about most of the answers; we've already seen he wasn't above manipulating the Matrix to make the Doctor appear guilty in The Trial of a Time Lord. The biggest way having the Valeyard on the show would tell us more about the Doctor is the simple fact that the Valeyard is part of the Doctor. To understand the Doctor, we have to understand the Valeyard as well. This doesn't mean that the Valeyard should spill all the beans about the Doctor's past; some mystery must be maintained. However, having the Valeyard around means there's a chance for understanding more about the Doctor.
