5. "Did You Miss Me?"
The Tenth Doctor spends most of The Christmas Invasion asleep, which frustrated many fans at the time. But without that protracted slumber, his eventual awakening could not have been so triumphant. A pleasure postponed is a pleasure increased, after all. This sublime moment of eventual emergence comes aboard the Sycorax spaceship. Harriet Jones, Rose, and Mickey are spectacularly failing to deal with the alien invaders when they notice the TARDIS is suddenly translating the Sycorax's language. But that must mean... Yup, the Doctor has woken up and he's ready for action. The Doctor, reinvigorated by the healing properties of tea vapours, flings the TARDIS doors wide and asks cheekily, "Did you miss me?" Then he gives a small, knowing smile. When people watch this scene for the first time, it's not uncommon for them to spontaneously applaud. And quite right, too.
