Doctor Who: 10 Best NuWho Recurring Characters

9. Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart)

Dr Who Jenny Flint
BBC
Episodes: A Good Man Goes to War, The Snowmen, The Crimson Horror, The Name of the Doctor, Deep Breath

The first member of the Paternoster Gang to make it on to this list, Jenny is the only one native to the Victorian era the group inhabit. This doesn't stop her from being as capable a fighter as the other two, however, and she can easily hold her own against the threats the gang come up against. She is courageous and resourceful, as shown by her investigations into Sweetville in Series 7 episode The Crimson Horror, which adds to how interesting she can be.

On top of that, she's the heart of the team. She is extremely caring towards her wife and even if she gets exasperated by Strax there's a clear warmth to that relationship. Additionally, she's the only member of the gang that sympathises with Clara in Deep Breath when Clara is struggling with the Doctor's regeneration, which in turn makes Jenny more likable as she's willing to try to understand other points of view and be kind towards those who hold them.

Furthermore, Catrin Stewart is a brilliant actress and her delivery often works to make the stories she's in even better. Who can forget the effectiveness of "I think I've been murdered" in the Series 7 finale? Just chilling.
