2. Sir Patrick Moore (The Eleventh Hour)

The Eleventh Hour marked the official debut of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor but there was another aspect of the episode that almost stole the show. No, that's not a reference to Amy Pond's mini skirt - it was the cameo appearance of the late TV astronomer Sir Patrick Moore! With the Atraxi's invasion of Earth imminent, the world's experts had gathered for an emergency conference call and, naturally, Moore was one of them. The Doctor managed to hack into the call to show the professionals how it's done - all they had to do was create a computer virus which would ultimately save the human race (who knew a virus would have the potential to do something good?) but perhaps the most important thing that fans learned during this scene is that the Doctor and Patrick apparently go way back and that he was a devil with the ladies. Well, they're both guilty of that. Sir Patrick Moore sadly passed away in 2012 but it's nice to know that he got the chance to leave his mark on the Doctor Who mythology.
