Doctor Who: 10 Crazy Internet Reactions To The 13th Doctor

2. But They Used The Wrong TARDIS!

Whilst all eyes were fixed on Jodie Whittaker and the importance of the new casting, some extra observant fans, including Doctor Who writer Clayton Hickman, were quick to spot the use of a photo-shopped TARDIS from the David Tennant era (sans St Johns Ambulance sign).

The actual prop may well have still been in use for filming at the time or it could have been all part of the effort to keep as few people in the loop as possible before the reveal. Ironically David Tennant was spotted at the Wimbledon final adding fuel to the speculation (based on the number 10 turning into 13 in the announcement trailer) that he could be set for a shock return.

The old girl has seen some changes in her time and had one of two of her own, but photoshopped or not the familiar icon reminded us of the most enduring qualities of Doctor Who – things that will outlive every Doctor – its Britishness, its eccentricity and its hero as a person who never quite fits in. Even when she is in the right period, the police box is located in a scrapyard instead of on a street corner.
