Doctor Who: 10 Most Annoying Companions Of The Revived Series

7. Mickey Smith

Ah, Mickey the idiot. At least he was supposed to be annoying, though, which is more than can be said for everybody else included on this list. He was first introduced as the bumbling boyfriend of Rose Tyler back in the Series 1 premiere (in case you've blanked it out, he got eaten by a burping bin and turned into an Auton... seriously!) and he was only ever there to remind Rose - and us - that she still had a family waiting for her back at home whilst she was merrily gallivanting through time and space. He was so annoying, though, that all of his reappearances only reaffirmed that his former lover had made exactly the right choice by leaving him behind. He was, generally speaking, an immature and needy 'tin dog' (no offence to K-9 intended!) and it was only when he was put up against a doppelgänger version of himself on a parallel world - this one was braver, smarter and generally better than him in every single way - that the writers managed to salvage some sort of character development that had otherwise been lost along the way. By this point, though, the damage had already been done. He was next seen at the end of Series 2 as a newly rediscovered force to be reckoned with (watch out, guys - he had a gun and everything!) but then he averted back to his boring old self for his next comeback in the Series 4 finale. Then he went and married Martha Jones which is quite frankly one of the most random pairings Doctor Who has ever seen. It kind of makes sense that the two people who had constantly been belittled by Rose Tyler ended up together, although Russell T Davies has admitted that he only did it so he could get 'Smith and Jones' on the credits one last time. At least he's honest, eh?
