Doctor Who: 10 One-Off Villains That Need To Return

6. The Family €“ Human Nature/The Family Of Blood (2007)

The Family As River Song said in The Impossible Astronaut €œA Time Lord€™s body is a miracle. There are empires who€™d rip this world apart for one cell€. And although the Family Of Blood never really tore the world apart, they still did a fair bit of damage in their quest to steal the Doctor€™s lifespan. The Family are interesting villains in that, like the Slitheen, they operate as a small close-knit group working for their own ends rather than trying to enslave people or destroy worlds on behalf of an immense empire. Another interesting aspect of the Family is that they only carry out reconnaissance work themselves, leaving the majority of any frontline fighting to disposable soldiers such as their army of scarecrows. Their ability to hold telepathic conferences with each other across great distances is a nice touch as well. Finally, their method of possessing humans to blend into their environment helps to really up their fright factor. Rather than being snarling monsters, they look like ordinary people. They can be anyone. Which they use to their considerable advantage when pursuing the Doctor. It also lets the actors playing the Family put a lot more emotion and expressiveness into their performances as they€™re not covered in prosthetics. In particular, Harry Lloyd and Lauren Wilson both gave absolutely chilling performances as Son and Daughter Of Mine. Thanks to a surprisingly aggressive and ironic act of revenge by the Doctor, the Family are destined to live forever which provides a perfect opportunity to bring them back. Though if this were to happen, the role of Daughter Of Mine would probably have to be recast as Lauren Wilson has aged very noticeably since the Family€™s first appearance
