Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Why 3D Is The Wrong Idea

3. It€™s Going To Be Dated Quickly

Nope, that wasn't a perm. Yes, I have touched on this before but it needs to be reiterated. This is going to be painful to watch in a few years and it will be because of the poor effects. The best episodes of Doctor Who are the one that don€™t overindulge in the special effects of the day. This makes Classic Who really difficult to watch for New Whovians as the Hartnell and Troughton days are decked in aluminum foil and the John Nathan Turner era (Doctors 5-7 for Noob Whos) tended to overuse the cheap visual displays and even worse costumes. Note that many of the best episodes of these eras get recommended due to focus on story rather than showing off what they didn€™t have. Recall that Hartnell€™s first episode The Unearthly Child is still well loved because it had a solid story that downplayed effects for the sake of budget. Davison's finale Caves of Androzani had minimal effects that emphasized a simple and emotionally charged plotline: The Doctor and companion Peri must get back to the TARDIS and find a cure for their fatal poison. Throwing 3D into the mix and further emphasizing it is going to make this story more difficult to watch than Freudian nightmares that were the Vervoids.
