Doctor Who: 10 Stories You Must Rewatch After The Power Of The Doctor

After playing an important role in the early years of Doctor Who, the organisation UNIT has played an increasingly larger part throughout the past few years. The United Nations Intelligence Taskforce was created to deal with any alien threats to the UK, following several incidents on Earth.

We first see UNIT in the 1968 story The Invasion, with the leader of the organisation being Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, who is the father of Kate Stewart, UNIT leader in The Power of the Doctor. The Brigadier explains that, after encountering the Doctor and the Yeti in the London Underground in the previous season, the taskforce was set up to deal with any future otherworldly emergencies.

This story acts as the perfect introduction for UNIT, as they gather intelligence about a mysterious electrical company. This eventually turns into a full-scale invasion by the Cybermen, who are hidden throughout the London sewers and attempt to take over Earth with their space fleet.

Thankfully, the Cybermen are soon destroyed, in the first of many successful collaborations between the Doctor, the Brigadier, and UNIT.
