Doctor Who: 10 Things We Want in an Anniversary Special

4. The Return of a Villain Not Seen Since The Old Series

THE WISH There€™s a long history of really good, interesting villains in Doctor Who. Not just the obvious, well-known ones like the Cybermen, the Daleks, or the Master. No, there€™s also plenty of lesser-known ones that were very important in the old series, but haven€™t returned in the new one. I think that€™s time to change. Imagine how much fun it would be to see the Rani return. Or perhaps the Toymaker, who has showed up to fight the Sixth and Eighth Doctors in audio form? Imagine seeing the Great Vampires return. It took the entirety of the Time Lords to beat them back before, but now there€™s only one Time Lord. Or picture the return of the Draconians, now with really good makeup. Or imagine how interesting it might be to have the Black Guardian show up, to put into motion a new and sinister plan to revenge himself upon the Doctor. ODDS OF THIS HAPPENING Pretty decent, really. Probably in the 40% realm. There€™s 50 years of Doctor Who history. The show could bring back one major threat from the old series and put it into the new series each year for the next twenty seasons without having to repeat themselves, though I do hope if this happens, they don€™t bring back the Quarks. We certainly will see more old series adversaries turn up at some point (rumors persist that we€™ll see the Zygons soon), so even if it doesn€™t happen in the 50th anniversary special, it€™s likely we€™ll see more eventually.
