Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About John Barrowman
10. He's Actually Scottish
Yes, don't be fooled by that American accent. John was actually born, and spent his formative years, in Glasgow but his family relocated to America - to Illinois, to be more precise - in 1975, when he was 8 years old. He holds dual citizenship in both the UK and the US these days (because apparently he wants the best of both worlds!) but, while he currently resides in LA, he's definitely not ashamed of honouring his heritage. He's often heard brandishing the brogue of his birthplace, usually during chat show appearances and whenever he's requested to at conventions (which is always!), and most recently he reverted back to his roots to join the debate in a string of televisual campaigns to coincide with the Scottish referendum. Most of his acting roles to date have required him to keep his American accent, though, which is why so few people know that he actually heralds from the opposite side of the Atlantic. Honestly. You think you know someone...
