Doctor Who: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Michelle Gomez

6. She Married Her Husband After He Saved Her From An Awful Blind Date

Gomez and her husband Jack Davenport - of This Life and Pirates of the Caribbean fame, and the son of actors Nigel Davenport and Maria Aitken, have been happily married for 15 years, although the chain of events that led them down love's path is charming if-not unusual tale. Davenport apparently became besotted with Gomez after watching her perform in Trainspotters, in which the character she was playing required her to go topless on stage, and returned on half-a-dozen occasions to watch her in the show, something which wasn't apparent to the Green Wing actress at the time. It just so happened that fate had a plan for them. During what Gomez describes as a "blind date going nowhere" with a guy by the name of "Steve" from the Customs and Excise department, Davenport was in attendance at a wrap party with the cast of crew of This Life, which was being held in the same bar. Clearly observing the disaster unfolding in front of him, Davenport moseyed on over to the pair and brazenly injerjected, asking if he could, in Gomez's words, "whisk her away". Steve, bless him, didn't even bother to fight for his date. Even then, despite his valiant intervention, Gomez wasn't all that keen on the man that would eventually become her husband. Her trademark Scottish witticisms led her to informing Davenport that he was "too young and posh" - despite a mere two years older than him - and that she wasn't keen on his "dodgy bowl haircut".
