Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Realised About Series 8

1. Fear Makes Companions Of Us All

Whether or not fans are on board with Clara's historical involvement in the Doctor's young life does not negate the fact that it is now established canon. The episode Listen shows Clara hiding under the Doctor's childhood bed, and speaking to him during the night. He is scared, and she comforts him by saying, €œFear makes companions of us all.€ If this child is the First Doctor (presuming that there are no unknown earlier versions of himself), it is later in this life that he says the same line to Susan, Ian and Barbara when they are trapped amongst cavemen in An Unearthly Child. In that dreamy, late-night moment from his childhood, he held onto that sentence and the comfort he found in it, perhaps not fully realizing its source. Doctor Who is a show that remains reverent towards its own history, even if it shakes up that history from time to time. Series 8 was full of these callbacks, and Series 9 will likely do the same. What did you think of this list? Are there any other little known facts about the Twelfth Doctor's debut series? Share them in the comments section below and don't miss our retrospectives for Series 1, Series 2, Series 3, Series 4 and Series 5, coinciding with NuWho's 10th anniversary on 26th March 2015. Time flies when you're having fun!
