Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Went To War
1. The Last Great Time War
Fought across all of time and space, with thousands of worlds becoming stages for war, this was the deadliest conflict in the universe. The two most powerful races - the Daleks and the Time Lords - were at war.
With ten million ships and billions of Daleks up against the Time Lords' Battle TARDISes, Sky Trenches, and an array of interdimensional weapons, nowhere was left unscathed in all of creation.
Other than the combatants, species such as the Nestenes and the Gelth were displaced by the events. By the end of the first year, even Davros had seemingly been killed by the Nightmare Child at the Gates of Elysium.
At least two incarnations of the Doctor were present for the Time War. The Eighth Doctor, initially refusing to fight, was killed in action trying to save a survivor of a gunship. Regenerating into 'The War Doctor', he battled until old age - but the Daleks persisted. Factions such as the Cult of Skaro were formed to devise new ways of exterminating, but the Time Lords were becoming equally bloodthirsty.
With no hope that the war would stop tearing the universe apart, the War Doctor sought out a Time Lord weapon to end it all. Activating the Moment, he was forced to live as the executioner of every Dalek and every Time Lord. That is until the events of 2013's The Day of the Doctor, where two of his future incarnations helped him change time. Sealing Gallifrey in another dimension, the Daleks instead destroyed each other in their own crossfire.
Still, much of this conflict is untold and unexplored. The mystery surrounding it, and its cost, award it with the top place on this list.
