Doctor Who: 10 Traumatising Monsters That Scarred You For Life

7. The Ood

The scar factor of the Ood is that their fairly neutral stance makes it hard to know what they're actually thinking. They are known for their submissive nature but there is always a question of what they are actually thinking of their masters. Worse still, they can read minds. People usually tend to have an ignorant view of them, automatically assuming that they serve solely because it's convenient for them, which doesn't help. Coupled by their susceptibility to be used by terrible people and you have a large population of servants that are everywhere and can turn at any moment. Try being alone with them in space, as the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler discovered in the Series 2 two-parter The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. Also, please factor in their taken for granted scary appearance that is hard to read, and the automatic weapon that is their translator.... But what really makes the Ood great is their easy functionality and versatility to fit into stories. They could be enemies, yes, but they can be also allies. In their default setting, they are either servants or sages of wisdom to the Doctor. But at any minute they can be corrupted or be some guy's foot soldier, like in The Doctor's Wife. And no one will know which side of the Ood the audiences are getting until the story decides to take some kind of twist. The most loyal creatures are also the ones that are needed to be doubted the most.
