Doctor Who: 10 Traumatising Monsters That Scarred You For Life

4. The Midnight Entity

No one knows what it looks like but whatever it€™s physical form is (if it even has one), it's powerful enough to survive in a supposedly uninhabitable atmosphere and strong enough to severely damage a heavily armored vehicle. But what's most threatening is not its strength (which is saying something), but it's intelligence. It didn't try to kill the passengers on the vehicle with brute force, but with psychological warfare. It possessed one of the victims, knowing that the others would drop at the first sign of trouble. The victims were eventually in a state in which they were willing to kill each other. And in one of the most disturbing scenes in Doctor Who history, the Doctor gets possessed by the creature which steals his voice and paralyses his entire body. What makes the Doctor different from other action heroes of fiction is that he doesn't need martial arts skills or fancy gadgetry. All he needs to save the day is his brilliant mind that can topple an entire government by speaking only six words. What this creature did was take away his greatest weapon, the one trump card that could have saved the day. So tense isn't the word when all anyone can do is helplessly watch as the Doctor gets slowly dragged to his untimely death... The Midnight Entity is one frightening creature because it was - and still is - such a mystery. Even the Doctor knows nothing about it, with all his knowledge of different creatures. No one knows what it looks like and no one knows what it wants. It is simply alien. How does anyone beat something like that? And the Doctor almost didn't.
