Doctor Who: 10 Worst NuWho Villains

4. SniperBots/The Remnants (The Ghost Monument)

The Ghost Monument is an episode where just about everything falls short, and that includes its villains. The story revolves around an epic race across a planet where everything is dangerous, and yet, Chris Chibnall's script doesn't seem bothered about expanding any of this stuff beyond mundane descriptive dialogue.

The writer also fails to deliver a single compelling villain, despite having multiple stabs at doing so. His first attempt is the SniperBots, robot soldiers with a bland design and some shocking aim that makes the Stormtroopers look like James Bond.

They're useless and they don't do anything remotely interesting, and the episode even makes a mockery of them in a scene where Ryan runs around in the open because he thinks he's playing Call Of Duty... and the SniperBots somehow miss him.

It's really dumb.

Next up, Chibnall introduces some sentient rags called the Remnants. Yes, sentient rags. Resembling used toilet paper, this is yet another bland design, and with some dodgy CGI and a severe lack of screen time (it seems like their only purpose is to tease the Doctor about the Timeless Child), it's impossible to take them seriously.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
