Doctor Who: 10 Writers We Want To See Return

1. Terrance Dicks

Chances are that if you lived in the dark days where you couldn’t watch an episode of Doctor Who on a whim (yes, that's overly dramatic but just go with), you probably came across the Target novelisations. And when Ian Marter (Harry Sullivan) or a story's original writer wasn't available, the task of adapting them usually fell to Terrance Dicks.

Simply put, Dicks is one of the cornerstones of Doctor Who writing history. He has been a writer, a producer, and novelised more than sixty stories. He is also responsible for several very well-regarded stories including The Five Doctors, The War Games, and The Brain Of Morbius. Few people have had such an enduring impact on Doctor Who and that’s precisely why it would be amazing to see him return in some way.

Doctor Who has moved on a lot since Dicks’ time but he has kept up his involvement, writing two Tenth Doctor novellas, and novelising the first episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. He may be one of the old guard but he still knows how to work with the new series.

A while back, Dicks spoke unfavourably about the less serialised format of modern Doctor Who, but with change on the horizon and Series 10 including a three-part story, there might be room to coax him back. And if not, we’ll just have to bring in the Mind Probe.
