Doctor Who: 11 Most Memorable Companion Exits Of The Last Decade

1. Rose Tyler (Doomsday)

Rose Tyler was going to be with the Doctor forever but unfortunately the universe had other ideas. In this case it was a parallel universe where Rose was trapped forevermore after a dramatic showdown with the Daleks and Cybermen during the epic Series 2 finale. This companion exit has topped the list purely because it's still just as powerful now as it was almost 10 years ago (if, that is, you ignore the fact it was somewhat diminished by Rose's subsequent multiple returns) and for that reason alone it's the most memorable of NuWho so far. It's also considered by many as one of the defining moments in Doctor Who history which was also a contributing factor. So what makes this exit so special? The entire nation was rooting for them to succeed during during the Battle of Canary Wharf and at one point it really looked like they were going to live to tell the tale, too. While they both did survive the climactic events which marked the historic on screen encounter of two of the Time Lord's most iconic adversaries, part of them died when they were forced to bid their final heartbreaking farewell. On the Norwegian shores of DÃ¥rlig Ulv-Stranden, Rose Tyler prepared to be reunited with the Doctor one last time and her beloved even burnt up an entire sun just to say goodbye which is pretty ambitious as far romantic gestures go. As they accepted the tragic realisation that they would never be able to see each again, it began to dawn on the viewers, too. Rose's long awaited declaration of her love - combined with the gut-wrenching fact that the Doctor never got to return the favour - makes it one of the most beautifully tragic Doctor Who departures of them all. It's not all bad news, though. As previously mentioned on this list, Rose got her happily ever after in the end. What did you think of this list? What would you say is the most memorable NuWho companion exit of the last decade? Let us know in the comments below.
