Doctor Who: 11 Things You Never Knew About Series 5 Of NuWho

5. The Old Age Home In Amy's Choice Is Actually Sarn

A more remote reference to Classic Doctor Who appeared in the seventh episode of Series 5, Amy's Choice. In the dreamworld, the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves attacked by a horde of ferocious pensioners. While this 'threat' is actually masterminded by the Dream Lord, it's interesting that the old people's home is actually called the 'SARN Residential Care Home'. The planet Sarn appeared, of course, in the Fifth Doctor's penultimate story Planet of Fire in which he battled the Master and was joined by Peri for the first time. Given that elements of the dream were taken from the Doctor's mind, it suggests the name of the home is either a passing memory or something significant that fans didn't realise at the time. In truth, it is probably the former. It did, however, give credence to the rumour that the Dream Lord might be the Master in some guise. As it turns out, the speculation was wrong, although he did return much later, wearing a face that most of us did not expect...
