In many ways, the Weeping Angels are a perfect Doctor Who monster. From an audience perspective, they're scary and memorable, and from a production perspective, they're relatively cheap to put on the screen.

In fact, all that was needed to bring the Angels to life in Blink were a few actresses and a couple of statue props.

According to Moffat, just two statue models were used during the production of the episode: one with its hand outstretched, and one with its hands over its face. The rest of the Angels were played by "girls in rubber costumes".

The only problem with depicting the Angels practically was that the actresses could wobble from time to time. However, this was addressed in post-production, where special effects were used to "freeze" the Angels in place.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
