4. What Was With All The Tangerines?
Tangerines played a big part in Last Christmas and either Steven Moffat's partial to a citrus fruit or their inclusion was inviting us to look at The Bigger Picture. It's probably the latter - the Moff looks like he's more of a pineapple sort of guy, after all, and, as the Doctor himself pointed out, nobody even likes tangerines. In this case, "the bigger picture" is whether or not Santa actually was real throughout the events of the episode. After all, who's to say he wasn't asleep somewhere after being infested by a Dream Crab too? Stranger things have happened and, as mentioned at the beginning of this list, his existence has quite rightly been left open for discussion. The tangerines certainly seemed to suggest that he was there all along, though, particularly the elusive shot of one at the very end of the episode. Either that or it was supposed to represent a mini-Gallifrey as a subliminal suggestion that it will finally be returning from its pocket universe in Series 9. Now that really would be Christmas...
