Doctor Who: 12 Unanswered Questions From Last Christmas
12. Was Santa Claus Real?
Well, that question was left unanswered on purpose. Even Steven Moffat would've been crazy to confirm Santa's existence one way or another and he's done some pretty daring things throughout his time as showrunner. Had Santa been proven fake then Ofcom would've had to have hired new employees to keep up with the inundation of phone calls from angry parents so it's probably best he's still the mythical hero that the world knows and loves. That doesn't answer the question, though, so let's just say he was as real as he was before the episode and leave it at that. Just how real that is has been left open for each viewer to decide but in Last Christmas, at least, he was part of the dream sequence and created by the subconscious as a saviour to rescue the characters from the Dream Crabs. Like he said himself, who else would you call if you were under attack on the North Pole? He even had his elves in tow so it all makes sense, really. In a Doctor Who sciencey-wiency sort of way, anyway. Nick Frost deserves a special mention for his portrayal of him. If Santa was real (and that's not to say he isn't, by the way), this is probably exactly what he'd be like.
