Doctor Who: 14 Cool Details Revealed In Steven Moffat's Wedding Of River Song Commentary

12. Around 600 Skulls Were Created For The Crypt Scenes

Early in the episode, Gantok (played by Mark Gatiss under heavy prosthetics) takes the Doctor to a spooky, ancient crypt, where they find the head of Dorium Maldovar.

There are tons of skulls lining the walls in this scene - as well as some scattered across the floor - but the actual figure may surprise you. According to Webb, the crew had a whopping 600 of them to work with, and most of them were made out of foam.

However, because the script required some of these skulls to rotate, around 30 special skulls were constructed out of more "heavy-duty" material.

These skulls were rotated by members of the crew holding rods, which, as Webb puts it, essentially allowed them to "puppeteer" each skull individually.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
