2. The Villains

Im going to dash what little hope you have right away: none of Doctor Whos villains would have survived this remake with their credibility intact. Of the ones we have information about, the only one who would have retained most of his original characterisation is Davros. Lets start with the Master. In this remake, not only would he be the Doctors brother (something that was thankfully debunked forever in 2007's The Sound Of Drums) but he would have also succeeded Borusa as Lord President of Gallifrey despite the fact that hes supposed to be a psychotic renegade with an unquenchable thirst for power who's viewed by Gallifrey's high council as one of the most evil Time Lords in history. Way to instantly get rid of his motivation. In Amblins defence he was going to be a recurring villain with plans such as indirectly causing the creation of the Daleks so that he could take control of them but the point remains that having him in position of power that he hasnt usurped or killed for and holds pretty much permanently damages his characterisation a lot. The Cybermen also would have suffered a severe kick in the continuity with the American remake changing them into piratical scavengers called Cybs (see the left hand side of the image for this page) who were constantly searching for replacement body parts. This would have been an interesting concept if it was applied to an original villain rather than completely retconning everything about the original Cybermen other than them being cyborgs. And finally we come to the Daleks. That thing on the right hand side of the image just below the title, thats what the Daleks would have looked like if this remake entered production. And thats not a drawing by a fan, its official concept art. Someone at Amblin looked at the universally loved and culturally iconic Dalek design and thought Its good but it could be more spidery. Plus part of their flesh being exposed defeats the whole purpose of the Dalek casing being for their protection. Their backstory would have been revised a little bit as well with a loose remake of Genesis Of The Daleks featuring the Doctor travelling to Skaro to destroy the Daleks as in the original, only this time on the orders of the Master who is using the Doctor to assure the Daleks will be created so he can control them. The Doctor would have worked with Davros to steer the creation of the Daleks in a different direction only for Davros to betray him and turn them into genocidal killing machines. The brightly coloured New Paradigm Daleks pale in comparison to this mess.
