Doctor Who: 5 Best Uses Of Classic Monsters In NuWho

1. Madame Vastra - A Good Man Goes To War

Doctor Who The Zygon Invasion
BBC

A Silurian woman working as a Detective in Victorian London, Madame Vastra first appears in the series six episode A Good Man Goes To War, joining the mission to rescue Amy Pond and her newborn daughter from the Demon's Run military base after The Eleventh Doctor calls in a favour. Later appearances dig slightly deeper into Vastra's life with her wife/maid, Jenny, and new Sontaran Butler, Strax, with The Doctor occasionally seeking their help, or stepping in to help with whatever case Vastra is currently working on.

Through both helping her human neighbours with her detective work, Vastra becomes a symbol of the peace between humans and Silurians that The Doctor has tried to forge ever since the classic series. She is living proof that, just as The Doctor once promised, planet Earth could, eventually, be shared.

Vastra, Jenny, and Strax, known collectively as The Paternoster Gang, currently star in an audio series for Big Finish, and even now, eight years after their last televised appearance in the Twelfth Doctor episode Deep Breath, fans still hold out hope for a TV spin-off starring Vastra and co.
