1. The Companion Doctor?
So if none of the above get the gig, should we be expecting another middle-aged white actor to step into the role of the Doctor? Not necessarily. Moffat and his producers could execute the biggest swerve of all, and transform Jenna-Louise Coleman from Doctor's companion to Doctor. At 27 Coleman is young, and, of course, is a woman. The switch from companion to Doctor would be an interesting one, and no doubt upset many fans. But then again, whoever is chosen will probably upset someone. Just imagine if Matt Smith faces his final battle, with Clara alongside him, and they both fall, with the Doctor losing his companion then beginning to regenerate. When the wibbly-wobbly magic of regeneration is done, just imagine those big brown eyes of Clara looking up at you. Tell me that wouldn't be kind of cool? In the world of Doctor Who, Clara inserted herself into every moment of the Doctor's history, and eventually found herself in the depths of the Doctor's timeline, where the Doctor himself said that everything and everyone was him. Surely there is there plenty of room in that storyline to explain how Clara can become the Doctor? Right? Coleman has won over just about everyone with her portrayal of Clara, and has shown she has the charm, wit and depth to star in the show. Could she make the step from sidekick to superhero?
So there are five left-field candidates for the new Doctor Who. What do you think? Do any of these options have a realistic chance of being the Twelth Doctor? Would you be happy with them as the Doctor or are they all terrible choices? Comment below.
