3. Sabalom Glitz
Now we get the Doctor Who equivalent of Vila from Blake's 7 mixed with Del Boy - Sabalom Glitz. Appearing in the first inner story The Mysterious Planet and also in the last two parts (The Ultimate Foe) he is one of those unforgettable characters who is on many people's lists of characters that should have become companions. Curiously he was used as a device in the Seventh Doctor story Dragonfire as a foil for Sylvester's Doctor highlighting how different the show now was and also as a way to get Mel out of the way to allow Ace to take centre stage. Another sublime performance, this by Tony Selby who made the character live from the first scene and this reminds us that for all its tainted reputation, there is a lot to like about Trial of a Timelord.
