34. Vengeance On Varos (Sixth Doctor)
Ho-ly cow, this one is intense. The story shows the Doctor and Peri Brown landing on Varos to replace the Zeiton-7 ore that helps power the TARDIS. Unfortunately, moments after landing they rescue a prisoner from execution and become fugitives themselves. It turns out on Varos, the entertainment broadcast is public executions, and so as the police force hunt down the Doctor and his companion it becomes a media circus. The story was originally intended to be critical of the amount of violence and brutality on television, but got considerable criticism for the levels of violence nonetheless.
33. The Mind Robber (Second Doctor)
Would you like to see the Doctor face a unicorn? How about toy soldiers? How about rescuing his companions by the power of puns? You would? Great! Then watch The Mind Robber immediately. When the Doctor realizes his TARDIS has been trapped in a lava flow, he must use an emergency unit to free the TARDIS. Unfortunately, he has never used it before and doesn't know what will happen. Then he learns... it takes you to The Void, a realm outside space and time, where nearly anything is possible. The entire story is pure fantasy, and brilliant fantasy at that.
