Doctor Who: 8 Greatest Things Russell T Davies Contributed To The Whoniverse
7. Torchwood
From his very first appearance in series one, Captain Jack Harkness became a fan favourite; so much so that Davies developed a spin-off for him, tying into the creation of the Torchwood Institute at the end of the Doctor Who series two episode Tooth and Claw. However, while Doctor Who was a family show, this spin-off was not.
Torchwood follows Jack as he leads a team investigating alien activity on Earth. It is also heavily implied that Jack's reasons for joining the team lay in the hope that his investigations may one day reunite him with the Doctor.
The series is sometimes described as Doctor Who for adults, which it proved as early as episode two, which features an alien gas that turns a young woman into a succubus.
Torchwood is often darker and raunchier than it's parent series, but what else would you expect from Captain Jack? The series has become a cult classic, and even now, ten years after the last episode aired, some fans are still clamouring for a revival.
