Doctor Who: 9 Great Third Doctor Stories

When 1970 rolled around, Doctor Who fans were treated to several new€er€treats. First, the show had a new lead in the form of Jon Pertwee. Second, it was in glorious colour! Third, for the first time the Doctor would be spending almost all of his time in one place on Earth, which meant regular, recurring characters, like the Brigadier, Sergeant Benton and Captain Yates, that the audience could know and love. With the Third Doctor stuck on Earth through almost all of his tenure, this meant that there were only certain stories they could do; basically just alien invasion or mad scientist. But they did do a very good job with those two stories, and once they branched out, things got even better! Let€™s take a look at the best, shall we?

9. The Curse of Peladon (Story 061, 1972)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2UUc8r1lu8 You know what really makes this story and the sequel, €œThe Monster of Peladon€ (and possibly the Big Finish sequel sequel, €œThe Bride of Peladon€)? Two words, one name: Alpha Centauri. Oh, the other aliens are really cool, and I like the overall idea of the Doctor ending up assisting at an intergalactic conference, but there€™s something about Alpha Centauri that€™s just so charming! Note to the new Who production team: bring it back, but make sure it has the same exact costume and voice. I can just hear it saying, €œHuman beings often find my appearance to be very unconvincing!€ Beyond all that, the story of diplomacy, betrayal, counter-betrayal and learning that just because someone looks hideous doesn€™t mean that they are, makes for a ripping good time! Plus the Doctor sings a song that, I promise you, will get stuck in your head whether you want it to or not (note: you won€™t).
