While frequent contributors such as Mark Gatiss and Gareth Roberts are always welcome back in the Whoniverse, many fans have called for new writers to be given a crack at the whip in Series 9, too. It looks like they may just be getting their wish as recent rumours have suggested that popular Torchwood writer Catherine Tregenna will be lending her creativity to the Twelfth Doctor's second series. If true, Catherine will be the first female writer the show has signed since Helen Raynor (The Sonataran Stratagem/The Poison Sky) back in 2008, which is a pretty remarkable statistic in itself. Known for her emotional scripts, Catherine's Torchwood episodes include Out of Time, Captain Jack Harkness, Adam and Meat. Meanwhile, another new name rumoured to be in talks for Series 9 is Beaver Falls and Doc Martin writer Jack Lothian, whose Doctor Who script has been in a constant state of development since Series 7. Will it ever see the light of day? Fans will find out next year... In addition there's an abundance of fresh writers out there who all deserve the opportunity to leave their mark on the Doctor Who mythology. The final say, as always, lies with Steven Moffat...
