The Doctor is used to having blasts from his past and the revived series has already welcomed back a plethora of his previous extra terrestrial encounters. There's still a menagerie of monsters out there who have been eagerly waiting in the wings for their stint in the 21st century spotlight, and hopefully for some of them, a comeback is just around the corner. The slimy Sea Devils and gravity-controlling Tractators are among the fan favourites for a Series 9 return, not to mention the renegade Rani who has been at the top of Whovian wish lists since her last escapade in 1987. The Sea Devils were introduced in a self-named Third Doctor serial in 1972 and made their last attempt at world domination in 1984's Warriors Of The Deep. In the same year, the Tractators encountered the Fifth Doctor in Frontios, which would turn out to be their only on screen appearance to date. Steven Moffat has suggested that he's keen to build on the Doctor Who mythology rather than revisit too many of its bygone baddies, but many fans believe that honouring the past is as vital to the show's success as contributing to its future.
