Doctor Who: All Chris Chibnall Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best

6. Resolution

A solid if not spectacular episode signified a decent return for the iconic Who villain, the Dalek. The return of The Doctor's greatest foe is slowly built up throughout this New Year's Day special, gradually building in strength and threat level as the episode proceeds.

The use of the singular threat of a lone Dalek had been used well before in Series 1 of NuWho, and while this episode never reaches those heights, it is still good fun. The companions are still a little bit superfluous to the plot, but Whittaker is clearly enjoying her first time taking on the greatest villain in Who history.

Much to no one's surprise, the episode is again let down, ironically, by the resolution. Ryan's Dad, for some reason, being the key to save the day. While the conversations between father and son are interesting and engaging, Chibnall's inability to smoothly link this plot point into the overall narrative is the clear weak point here.
