Doctor Who: BBC Centenary Special Trailer Breakdown - 11 Things You Must See
With our first look at the Doctor Who BBC Centenary Special, lets dive into what's in store.
No matter your feelings on Sunday's Legend of the Sea Devils, arguably the biggest highlight, rightly or wrongly, was the teaser we got for the BBC Centenary special.
The feature-length special, set to screen in Autumn, will see Jodie Whittaker's final episode in charge of the TARDIS, as well as Chris Chibnall's tenure in charge of the show come to an end. With the 60th Anniversary special around the corner, in 2023, helmed by Russell T Davies, this is the end of a rather controversial era of Doctor Who.
With many threads still left hanging from the Chibnall era, this special has quite a lot of work to do. Forgetting the fact that as far as we're aware great chunks of the universe are still destroyed by the Flux, the two major matters of the Timeless Child and Fugitive Doctor still need addressing.
The teaser is chocked full of characters and seemingly different plot points. We know Chibnall doesn't have the best track record with spreading himself to thin with lots of character's and plot points, but this teaser certainly gets your attention.
So, let's dive into the breakdown of this Centenary Special teaser trailer.
11. Bowie Base One Space Suits
First off on this list, is the (now arguably overused?) return of the Bowie Base One spacesuits from the Waters of Mars.
The orange space suit, first made iconic by David Tennant's Tenth Doctor as the Time Lord Victorious, has now popped up in every Doctor's era since. The Eleventh Doctor sported the look in Series 7's Hide, whilst Twelfth, Clara and Courtney all had a copy for Kill the Moon. However, by the next time the TARDIS crew needed spacesuits for the Empress of Mars, they were replaced with sleeker grey suits instead.
In the teaser we see Dan sporting one whilst seemingly in a bit of bother, with Thirteen herself wearing one in a promo pic. It is also notable, that Dan's helmet in a promo is also damaged, possibly from this trailer trouble?
The only real issue I can take away from this has always been why does the Doctor have multiple of these when they obviously only wore one in the original episode, but that's only a nerd's nitpick.
The use of these suits does however show this special will be juggling multiple locations, rather than just staying earthbound, so for better or worst, that's at least exciting.
