2. The Truth Shall Set Us Free. Or Not.

The Doctor quite often does not tell the truth. Yet in this episode he states right up front that he is a time traveler. He doesnt even try to come up with another scenario. Could this foreshadow the fate of the Doctor throughout this series? Is he being stripped of not only his memories and identity but also his lies? Are we arriving closer to the essence of the Doctors true nature? And is that a very dangerous place to be? It has been hinted that the Doctors name is a lock that contains something that would be very dangerous to the fate of the universe. What if Clara is the key? Trust is a fragile thing. We never truly know the heart of another being. If we choose to trust them, while we may be able to make an educated guess as to their worthiness, we are still forced to take an awful lot on faith. If we distrust everything we become a Lieutenant Stepashin, forever looking over our shoulders for the next adversary. If we blindly follow we open ourselves to allowing evil to flourish at the expense of compassion. The rationale choice is to aim for the middle ground, questioning and listening, exploring and reasoning. The Doctor is always asking everyone to trust in him but what if he does not trust in himself? Are we about to see what happens when his own armor is ripped away and his truth is set free?
