Human beings are pack animals. Our desire to conform, to fit within the social structure, is an understandable adaptation to ensure survival €“ except sometimes it doesn€™t. In fact our fear of bucking the crowd quite often leads to disaster. Megalomaniacs, tyrants, dictators, cult leaders and con men use our need to belong to manipulate and control us. We follow the crowd right into the pit. Jenny literally steps out of line upon entering Sweetville. Her action ripples throughout the entire queue, shaking it up, forcing it into a different formation. She finds the Doctor because she€™s not afraid to open the door. She peels away her conforming layers to do battle when the need arises. She cannot be manipulated because she has accepted and embraced her true nature. Like all of us, Jenny is a multitude of things - maid/partner/warrior and more. She recognizes that the uniqueness of the individual is not to be given up for the false security of the collective. This is not to say she does not acknowledge the value of the group dynamic, only that she approaches it with healthy skepticism.
