Doctor Who: Every Character Who Can Fly The TARDIS

4. Adric

Even though he's not exactly the most beloved companion in the show, Adric is low-key one of the smartest characters in Doctor Who history.

He's something of a genius when it comes to mathematics, earning the rank of mathematical elite on his home planet of Alzarius. He put this expertise to good use throughout his travels with the Doctor, once claiming that he had calculated the coordinates to allow the TARDIS to enter E-space - a journey that the Doctor himself considered to be far too difficult to make.

With Adric's brainpower in mind, it isn't terribly surprising that he knows how to pilot the TARDIS, something that we see him do a couple of different times - without the Doctor's assistance.

For instance, in episode four of Logopolis, he successfully lands the TARDIS on Earth, and in the following serial - Castrovalva - he dematerialises off Earth. Granted, he is under the influence of the Master for that second example, but it's clear that his TARDIS-flying skills are something that he genuinely possesses.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
