Doctor Who: Every Doctor's BEST Episode
4. The Twelfth Doctor - Heaven Sent
Tom Baker famously believed that he could carry an entire episode of Doctor Who by himself. But with all due respect to Tom Baker, Peter Capaldi is a much better actor than he is. And so, Peter Capaldi gets to do what Tom didn't - carry an episode of Doctor Who by himself. He even gets to directly address the camera, like Tom used to do!
Heaven Sent is almost entirely focused on Peter Capaldi, as the Twelfth Doctor investigates a mysterious castle while he deals with the loss of Clara and confronts his fears.
Moody, spooky, and tinged with melancholy, Heaven Sent is the sort of Doctor Who episode that Peter Capaldi's casting enabled. His skills as an actor elevated the show, and while attempts to play to his intensity as a performer didn't always land, Heaven Sent absolutely nails it.
Much like Caves of Androzani, you wouldn't want Doctor Who to be like this every week, but you're amazed that this show has something like Heaven Sent in its wheelhouse.
