Doctor Who: Every Doctor's WORST Episode
8. The Twin Dilemma (The Sixth Doctor)
Okay. This is the big one. According to more than one fan poll, The Twin Dilemma is the worst Doctor Who story of all time. And it’s the debut of The Sixth Doctor as well. Not a fantastic start.
Where to even begin? Forget Earthshock into Time-Flight. This is the biggest drop off in quality between episodes in the entire show’s history. The Caves of Androzani is considered the best episode of the classic run and it’s followed up by…a pair of annoying twins and the Doctor attempting to strangle his companion to death barely ten minutes into his new incarnation.
The Sixth Doctor era is the wobbliest in the show’s history to say the least, plagued by declining ratings and writers who simply weren’t up to par. And for the people who decided to get off the sinking ship that was Doctor Who in the Eighties, can you blame them?
Colin Baker does his best with what he’s given, and his later Big Finish audios have redeemed his Doctor’s reputation somewhat, but he was tripped up right out of the gate by this abomination.
As Russell T Davies himself later put it, this train wreck was “the beginning of the end” for classic Doctor Who.
