Doctor Who: Every Doctor's WORST Episode
9. Time-Flight (The Fifth Doctor)
Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor era is often unfairly cited as the start of one big downward trend for the show that would continue throughout the 1980s. Proponents of this opinion often overlook the fact that his final story, The Caves of Androzani, is widely considered to be the best of the entire classic series.
Still, it’s hard to argue with Davison’s detractors about Time-Flight. There really is nothing redeemable in this four-part mess.
Following up the critically acclaimed Earthshock was never going to be an easy feat, but this story doesn’t even try. It feels as though the writers fell in love with the idea of “The Doctor and his friends fly on Concorde” and did their best to cobble together a story after the fact.
What you end up with is an incoherent muddle about The Master in a poorly fitting disguise attempting to do…something with his TARDIS. It’s not quite clear how any of it happens and, to be honest, it really doesn’t matter.
If you can actually recount the plot of this embarrassment from memory, you deserve a medal and probably a nice lie-down.
