Doctor Who: Every NuWho Companion Ranked
3. Donna Noble
While Donna wasn't all that likable in her debut episode, 'The Runaway Bride', you quickly grow to really enjoy her and her interactions with the Doctor in her subsequent series. She's definitely a companion that you learn to appreciate once you go back to her episodes. And because they came off as really good friends as opposed to having a romantic relationship like with other companions, she truly felt unique and enjoyable. Her quick wit bounced off well with Tennant's Doctor.
Unfortunately, she was the companion during a middling season. While Series 4 has some amazing episodes, 'Silence in the Library' and 'The Unicorn and The Wasp', to name a few, it also has some of terrible episodes such as 'Turn Left' and 'The Planet of the Ood'. Another unfortunate aspect of her character is her ending, which does show more why she was a good companion, in that she doesn't remember what happened, and that really is one of the most unfortunate endings for a companion of the Doctor.
However, regarding her ending, it would be remiss if I didn't mention the "Doctor-Donna", which suffers from the problem that Clara does, in that she becomes incredibly special without any real reasoning behind it.
