Doctor Who: Every NuWho Companion Ranked

4. Amy Pond

Donna Noble Doctor Who
BBC

Amy was a great companion. She was adventurous and reckless to a fun degree, bringing a sort of 'spunk' and/or 'attitude' to the series. Being the first companion for a new Doctor and a new head writer, she held an important position in the fandom. While she might not have been great in her early episodes, she became one of the better companions as the series went on. Once her boyfriend-turned-husband, Rory, was introduced as a companion, Amy developed a new aspect of her character that greatly enhanced her adventures.

Unfortunately, the reason why Amy is not one of the better companions is because without Rory she suffers the same problem that Bill does, which is she's somewhat not very unique, at least after her first series. Initially she had an interesting mystery surrounding her that played into the overall plot, but after Rory boards the TARDIS, we don't get a whole lot of her alone. I think the main take away is that Amy and Rory together are great, almost perfect, but alone, they both seem lacking in any sort of spark.
