Doctor Who: Every NuWho Cyberman Story Ranked Worst To Best
1. Rise Of The Cybermen/The Age Of Steel
There could only be one winner. The original and the best, Russell T Davies and Tom MacRae reinvented and, pardon the pun, upgraded the Cybermen for the 21st Century and the results are perfect.
Landing in a parallel London, the Tenth Doctor, Rose and Mickey Smith face the wrath of a mad businessman, who plans to upgrade humanity into, you guessed it, Cybermen.
Much like with the episode 'Dalek' in the previous series, the pressure was on to deliver a story that would bring back an iconic monster from the classic era in a way that would please old fans and entertain new audiences. The new design and origin story of the Cybus Industries Cybermen is brilliant, and hasn't been topped by anything else in the revival era and it was in these episodes where we first heard their iconic catchphrase: "Delete!"
There's also some excellent character work done for the two companions. Rose is reunited with her sort-of father, Pete, continuing her arc from Father's Day, and Mickey finds his place in the universe, rounding off his main story in style.
Overall, its a near-perfect two-parter. A great blend of action, comedy, horror, with iconic villains (special shout out to the late, great Roger Lloyd-Pack as John Lumic/The Cyber Controller), great side characters, and terrific performances all round, this is by far the best Cyberman story of Doctor Who's revival.
