Doctor Who: Every NuWho Cyberman Story Ranked Worst To Best

2. Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday

The Evolution Of The Cybermen Doctor Who
BBC Studios

Cybermen v Daleks? What more could you ask for? Series 2 marked the end of Rose Tyler (at least as a main companion) and as such, Russell T. Davies went all out to ensure that Billie Piper got the send-off she deserved.

Tying up plot threads from the series including the mystery surrounding Torchwood and the parallel world, the Tenth Doctor and Rose must prevent a war between the Cyberman and the Daleks that threatens all of the universe.

While Rose was the main focal point of these episodes, the Cybermen still get plenty of moments to shine, chief amongst which the montage where they take over the Earth. And of course we cannot forget to mention their first interaction with the Daleks, which has given us two of the best burns in sci-fi history: "This is not war, this is pest control" and: "You are superior in only one respect. You are better at dying."

The finale is the closest the show has got to a blockbuster action film, and it's fantastic to see the Cybermen be part of, doing battle and showing off all their might.

The only thing preventing Army Of Ghosts and Doomsday from taking top spot on this list is the Cybermen aren't front and centre. While one of the chief antagonists, this story is more about Ten and Rose and their goodbye. When people think of this episode they remember crying at the scene on the beach rather than any of the action sequences.
