Doctor Who: Every Russell T Davies Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
30. The Runaway Bride
RTD’s second Christmas special starts with a wedding on Christmas Eve.
Then the bride is inadvertently teleported to the TARDIS because she’s been poisoned with particles stolen from Torchwood in order to awaken a load of giant spiders hibernating at the centre of the Earth.
Yeah, it’s safe to say the plot of The Runaway Bride is a tad contrived.
It’s also another of those stories that drops the ball a bit tonally. Just look at that scene of the Doctor, Donna and Lance riding around on segways.
It’s not without nice character moments, like the Doctor opening up about Rose and Donna telling him to find someone at the end.
And Sarah Parish excels as the Racnoss (even if it’s painfully obvious that her material was all shot separately).
But ultimately it feels more like something you’d see on CBBC than BBC One.
