17. Boom Town
Like the first Slitheen story, its sequel is often dismissed by fans.
But it’s actually really damn good, largely because it asks a question that no previous Doctor Who story had really considered: is the villain capable of redemption?
In the event, Margaret Blaine does end up being a bad egg (before being turned into a literal good egg). But it’s a fascinating ride – the standout scene being the Doctor’s meal with Margaret, where his approach to justice is challenged like never before.
It also has some lush Cardiff Bay visuals and some of Rose and Mickey’s best ever scenes.

It’s not exactly the most Doctor Who-y Doctor Who story ever, but definitely deserves more love than it gets.
