Doctor Who: Every Title Sequence Ranked From Worst To Best

7. The Thirteenth Doctor (2018-Present)

When Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall stepped into the TARDIS in 2018, everything was about to change. Not only was it a new showrunner taking the reigns, a new actor tackling the iconic Time Lord, and almost an entire change in production, it also brought about a new title sequence and composer. Segun Akinola took the reigns from Murray Gold, who had composed for Doctor Who since 2005. This sequence was much more reminiscent of the original titles, dropping the TARDIS for the first time since the 1984-1986 openings, and removing the much-loved portrait of the Doctor.

If the technology were available at the time, this is how Jon Pertwee's title sequence probably would have looked. Though the time vortex used in Series 11 onward is reminiscent of these visuals, this is a much more abstract approach to the usual opening seen in Doctor Who. This stunning creation represents the much higher-quality production values seen throughout the Chibnall era, and an accelerated push through this nebula-laden star field, into a hard cut to the episode title wrapped things up in a gorgeous fashion.

Segun Akinola's more minimal approach to the original theme also hails back to the days of the original Delia Derbyshire theme, cementing the Thirteenth Doctor's title sequence as something that would have been produced back in the sixties if the technology was there.

Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
